Depends on type: There are two basic types of acne; comedonal and inflammatory. Pimples that are small, with a center that is white or black, are called comedones. Dermatologists usually recommend medications like Retin-A for that type of acne. If the pimples are larger, red, and tender to touch, medication that helps get rid of bacteria on the skin, like benzoyl peroxide, work best. Using both helps mixed type.
