Can brain injury lead to autism?

Not by definition: A brain injury under the age of three, would fit the research definition as a cause of cerebral palsy and any associated limitations would be part of it. After three, the limitations would be brain injury related. The complex interplay of language, social and other features of autism do not fit a the pattern of an injury as it affects too many different areas of the brain at the same time.

See below: Autism is a disorder of neural development. Traumatic brain injury, or brain injury from other mechanisms can mimic some of the symptoms of autism, but does not cause the same problems. Talk to your provider about the conditions that you are worried about.
