How does a newborn baby get drug tested?

Newborn drug test: They collect the first bowel movement called meconium. The test results are very good.

Three ways: There are actually three ways to test a newborn for drug exposure. We can test the actual umbilical cord to see if drugs are present in it. We can collect both the baby's urine and first poop (meconium) and check to see if drugs are present in either of these. Depending on what drug mom uses and time line of use before birth, different samples can give different results. Please don't use moms!
