This is serious: If you are iron-deficient, you physician needs to seek a cause. If it is heavy periods and a diet relatively low in iron, and you do not have evidence of loss of blood in your stool, then a trial of oral iron therapy is in order. You will have to true very hard to get enough iron in your diet -- red meat is your best source -- and if you don't, you'll be very sick and unable to work effectively.
