Chemical changes: Likely due to release of chemicals called prostoglandins. Very common. Usually advil (ibuprofen) or alleve will help.

Pelvic pain: It's hard for someone to localize where the pain originates... Ovary, tube, uterus, bowel, bladder, etc... Ovarian pain from ovulation is usually earlier (2 wks before period starts) depending on the length of your cycle. Yours sounds more like premenstrual symptoms. If u have no medical issues and can take ibuprofen, u can try taking it prophylactically before the pain begins.

Pelvic pain: Pain with menstruation is expected. The week before is not as common. Perhaps you have so called pms (premenstrual syndrome). Before any suggestions can be made, though, you will need to have an exam to make sure there is nothing else going on. I would refer you to your primary care doc or an obgyn.
