My mother had ihss, what are the chances of me getting it?

Increased: Half of the cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are inherited. If your mother had it, it is highly likely you have it. That said, most cases are diagnosed early (not always) usually by a heart murmur, or an abnormal. An echocardiogram may be warranted. Your siblings and children should also be screened. Good luck.

50/50: Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortioc stenosis, now more commonly called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, is an inherited condition of abnormal heart muscle. It has an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, meaning a parent with the condition has a 50/50 chance of transmission to a child. A cardiac ultrasound can help to evaluate heart muscle thickness. Discuss genetic testing with your doctor.
