Should i be alarmed if one ear suddenly turned hot and red?

Infection?: Two things come to mind: a common outer ear infection (otitis externa) or an allergic reaction (even simple insect bites can do this in some people). Other possibilities include an infection of the skin of the ear (cellulitis) or trauma.
