Rare: It would be much more likely for it to spread into the neck or floor of mouth with worsening swelling, fever, pain, difficulty opening mouth. Those with these kind of infections that have spread are acutely ill. After it has spread it can then cause sepsis.

This can occur : If you are in good health there is not a lot of concern if this is now being treated. However if you have heart problems or are a diabetic this could be a major problem even causing severe illness.
