Possibly: There is lots of debate in pediatric circles whether giving decongestants or antihistamines make any difference in clearing middle ear fluid. Some swer by it, but most studies don't show a big difference versus jsut waiting and doing things like popping one's ears and chewing gum. The side effects are usually minimal, so if you doc wants to try that for a month, it's ok to give it a try.

Sounds like: Your were given zyrtec, (cetirizine) which is an antihistamine. This should improve your allergies, but if the fluid doesn't go away in a week with regular use, you may need additional medication.

Under the current circumstances would it be ok to just call my dr office to get help with my allergy symptoms. Each season I experience the say same thing with the same out come. Ear pain and the infection. I use my allergy medicine both oral and nasal.
