Avoid trigger: The most important aspect of treating allergies is to identify the trigger of the allergic reaction and avoid it. Many times, by reviewing recent exposures, a person can develop a list of potential triggers. With avoidance, the reaction will not recur. While an antihistamine can help with itching or a topical cortisone cream may relieve a mild skin reaction, the best treatment is avoidance.
