Severity?: At least 3 questions need answering before determining how to proceed, including 1) does he have a specific plan/ means with regard to carrying out a suicide? 2) does he have a history of suicide attempts? And 3) level of community support and contact with caring others? After considering these things, it would be best to call the local mental health (crisis) hotline for additional suggestions.

Suicidal parents: I agree w dr. Ragain. Don't know if you are an adult or a minor. If your father has a suicide plan w a desire to carry out the plan then he needs to be seen asap at the nearest emergency room. If he is willing, you can drive him, if not call 911 for emergency services assistance.
