Harm you & baby: If left untreated, it can at the very least cause the baby to grow so much that your risk during delivery, and the risk to the baby increase tremendously. Your sugar can go so high up that you become dehydrated, develop severe acidity of the blood, and maybe go into a coma.

No: Gestational diabetes is not a fatal disease. It is cured usually by delivery of the infant. Gestational diabetes does cause large babies though. That increases the chances of a difficult vaginal delivery or a cesarean section.
