You're already dead!: Classification of syphilis is based either on time from initial infection (early/late/late-latent) vs on syndromes (primary, secondary, tertiary). If ignored in the tertiary stage, then you can die from an aortic dissection, aneurysmal blowout, stroke. And from other end-organ damage that can mimic other diseases. Since quartinary comes after tertiary, the patient is likely dead!

No such thing: The latest stage of syphilis is tertiary; there is no "quaternary" stage. Untreated syphilis almost never is fatal, but once in a while it can cause serious illness with disabling complications. If you think you have syphilis or have been diagnosed with it, follow your doctor's advice about treatment and follow-up.
