Ask Your Dr. : An emotional support animal requires that you have a condition that causes you to have a significant disability that the animal helps you with. An example would be agoraphobia or panic attacks and the dog allows you to go out in public. If you have depression it might be helpful to have a dog but it certainly does not require you to take it in to a restaurant with you.

Service dog vs: Emotional support animal.An emotional support animal ; a service dog/ animal are not one ; the same. An emotional support animal provides its owner comfort. A service dog has been specifically trained to perform tasks which will ameliorate the owners disability. So either a service dog or an emotional support dog might aid a person with post traumatic stress disorder. Your mental health provider.
