Partial response: If the medication is helping somewhat, but could be more effective, or if there are multiple symptoms, such as anxiety and depressive symptoms, an increase in the dose of antidepressants can be useful.

Dose increase: Antidepressants are often started in subtherapeutic doses to help avoid side effects. The dose is gradually increased over time. Doses are also increased when the current dose has only partially treated symptoms.
