Unilateral leg edema: Possible causes for her left leg swelling would include venous insufficiency, leg contusion, ruptured baker's cyst or cellulitis. But what's dangerous is the possibility of blood clots or dvt, deep vein thrombosis. So it would be wise for her to go to see a doctor.

Possible clot: Called dvt, a clot in her leg can be a serious problem. Please take her to get checked asap.
