A member asked:

I have injured my left knee 3 times. all resulting in the bursting of my bursa sac. the second to last time was larger than usual and it hurt more tha?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good news though: Tx of burst or ruptured bursae is rarely invasive & does not typically require surgical intervention. In severe cases, needle aspiration & injection of steroids to reduce the amount of inflammation may be necessary. Usual treatments include ice compresses, rest, elevation of the joint , take Ibuprofen or naproxen. If infected , you will need antibiotics & recovery may be longer than 2-3 weeks.
