Interesting question: To my awareness there is no specific thalassemia diet. Regarding weight gain and vitamin d and calcium, i recommend a well rounded diet of meats, fruits, vegetables and grains, and dairy products. Most physicians are checking vitamin d levels and prescribing vitamin d and calcium according to test results. Check with your doctor.

Same as for...: ...Everyone else. Eat lean meats, lots of vegetables, some fruit, whole grains, and drink lots of water. Lots of veggies, like broccoli for example, are good calcium sources. Vitamin d comes from a few cold water fish (like salmon and mackerel), and from sun exposure. If you live in a cool climate, use a supplement. Concentrate on being healthy, not gaining weight.
