Yes. : Some wisdom teeth extractions result in very little pain while others will cause moderate to severe pain after surgery which would warrant the use of stronger medications.

Tooth extraction : Having your wisdom teeth extracted can be quite a painful procedure. It is not uncommon for your dentist to prescribe alleve or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory(nsaid) or possibly an analgesic such as hydrocodone to help "take the edge off" while your body slowly heals itself.

Yes but....: More and more dentists are avoiding strong pain medications and find that a combination of Advil 600mg and Tylenol 300 mg work just as well with less side effects and habit forming potential.
