A closed one: You would want to avoid open shoes like sandals, clogs, etc...You want to wear a stable shoe.

Depends: On what type of injury is causing you to be on crutches. It is always a good idea to protect the foot/ankle in at least a surgical shoe but knowing the problem would yield a better answer.
