Do i need to get an abscess drained?

If appropriate: If there is a pool of accumulated fluid (pus) associated with an abscess, it is usually proper to drain this pool of fluid. Surgical drainage is a widely used procedure to limit the infection and improves the body's ability to eliminate it.

Not necessarily...: Most dental abscesses can be treated with antibiotics and cleansing in some way. At times, dentally, extraction is needed. Since the inception of my dental practice in 1986 we may have had perhaps two dental abscesses drained.
