Nausea: Vomiting, prolonged sedation, aspiration of vomitus and other side effects. All are often treated prophylactically for patients with risk factors. There are others but are very rare.

Overall, these medications are quite safe but they do impact many organ systems throughout the body. They depress consciousness, typically lower blood pressure and blood flow, and in some instances may interfere with normal kidney function.
