Short course UTI tx: A 3 day course of therapy for cystitis w/tmp/smx (trim sulfa) is a reasonable start. This is not the end however. It means a repeat ua needs to be evaluated with completion of therapy to make sure the infection is cleared. It may be a resistant bug, re-infection or failure. As well a physical exam should be done to rule out other issues: antibiotic assoc colitis, appendicitis, ovarian cyst....
