Otitis externa: You may have done a few things, one is that you may have softened wax to the point that it is blocking your ear canal, but usually that isn't as painful as you are reporting. You might have also irritated your ear canal and provoked what is commonly called swimmer's ear. This is when the ear canal gets an infection, causes swelling, pain, and trouble hearing-have your ear checked by a doctor.
