Low chance: The anesthesiologist monitors the patient during the surgery. Several monitors are used to be sure the patient remains asleep during the surgery. Additional medications are given as needed and anesthetic gasses are inhaled throughout the surgery. Sometimes even a brain wave monitor may be used to watch that the patient remains asleep.
