Possible liver issue: Sometimes when there is a problem with the liver or gallbladder it can cause some upper abdominal discomfort and itching. I would check with my doctor and have them run some liver function blood tests.

Jaundice: Abdominal discomfort associated with itching can be a sign of bile duct blockage in the liver. A simple lab test and/or ultrasound will help rule this out. Does the patient have yellow skin or yellowness in the whites of their eyes?
