Sugar:Fast Heartbeat: Excessive and rapid intake of sugar, as occurs when drinking sugared drinks, causes Insulin spikes which causes the blood sugar level to drop quickly to the point where the heart (& body) are metabolically stressed, causing Epinephrine release, which increases heart rate. Low glycemic index foods release sugar slower, so this effect is limited and not as noticeable.
