Can a gel like mass on the thyroid area turn into a liquid like mass?

Not sure what mean: Cysts within the thyroid contain fluid, typically colloid, sometimes blood. Colloid can be very thick (looks like motor oil). The viscosity has more to do with how long it has been there rather than to whether it is worrisome or not.
