Heat and stretching: Unless there is some unusual cause for your symptoms, most muscle spasm will respond to conservative treatment. Heat is used to warm up the muscle and reduce spasm and stretching will allow you to make the spasm decrease over time. If you're not responding, see a spine specialist like a physiatrist or orthopedist to see if you might need trigger point injections for more chronic complaints.
