Baker's Cyst: A "hernia" of the knee is pushing of the cushioning sac between the thigh bone (femur) and lower leg bones (tibia and fibula); it is rarely called a "hernia". When upright and the knee is completely straight, a cystic swelling may appear as a bulging mass on the inside of the knee pit below the skin creases. Physical exam by an orthopedist will usually confirm the diagnosis. They can be removed.
