Acute lung insult: Changes in permeability of the lungs (pulmonary) capillary membranes, usually as a result of either a direct or an indirect insult, such as : drowning acute glomerulonephritis (kidney disease) fluid overload aspiration inhalation injury neurogenic pulmonary edema allergic reaction adult respiratory distress syndrome (ards).

Non cardinogenic ede: Multiple causes; sepsis syndrome, drugs, brain trauma, lung trauma, infections such as influenza, or others. Volume overload to name a few. Many other causes possible
