Depends on trauma: I have seen many recover from post traumatic edema. It depends on how much injury the brain has undergone and the overall health of the person. Don't give up hope and good luck

Cerebral edema: Cerebral edema will usually resolve over time, more important is the severity of the injury to the brain from the car crash. If there has been permanent injury directly to the brain this is hard to recover from.
