Yes: Tonsils are considered the home where streptococcus seeds but without tonsils one can still get strep throat although less common and less frequent.

Yes: Tonsillectomy used to be preformed to prevent throat infections, like strept throat. However, recent studies have shown that tonsillectomy only decreases the number of days that a child is sick by 5 days per year for 2-3 years after the surgery, which means only fewer infections. A patient can still get throat infections.Tonsillectomy is now done to prevent ear infections, snoring and sleep apnea.
