Symptom relief...: Viral ulcerative pharyngitis / tonsillitis is uncomfortable but self limited. Would try a combination of Ibuprofen 600mg three times daily and a mixture of 1:3 maalox or mylanta and water swish in mouth and spit out as many times per day as you need to neutralize mouth acid. Should peak about 4-5 days then begin to resolve. If it persists contact your doctor.

Sore tonsil tx: Use of 'numbing sprays' such as chloraseptic spray may help. Also, gargling with salt water sometimes helps relieve the irritation. Finally, if pain is really bad, take tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen to take the edge off the pain.
