If symptoms persist.: Symptoms from thumb basal joint arthritis can wax and wane and are often activity related. If symptoms develop after rigorous activity, try temporary immobilization (splint), ice and anti-inflammatory medication (nsaids). If symptoms persist for more than a few days or start to interfere with your quality of life, see a board certified hand surgeon. Therapy or steroid injection may help.

Basal joint: Yes. If you are in that much pain you should be seen. X-rays can show if you have arthritis which can be treated.
