A member asked:

Can optic neuritis possibly cause protrusion of the affected eye?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No : Unilateral exophthalmos, protrusion of one eye, is most likely a result of thyroid disease. Other causes include inflammation ANS infection of tissues or sinuses around the eye and rarely tumors of the tissues around the eye, the optic nerve and the eye.
