Unknown: Most with optic neuritis never develop ms. I would see a neurologist for a complete evaluation if you are concerned.

Statistics: Optic neuritis can be due to many causes, and MS is but one. However, it may be the start of MS in about 60% of cases. Should get MRI of brain and eyes, and if one or more white matter lesions, this could increase risk to 80% by the next 14 yrs. Work closely with your doctor.
