As far as hep c and hiv are concerned what is an open wound?

Integrity Matters: Basically a break in the upper layers of your skin or mucous membrane is needed. When the skin or mucus membrane is intact, then those viruses do not have access to the types of cells that they attach to.

Wimpy Virus: It is important to remember that viruses like hepc, hiv, others are strings of proteins that are connected by very weak bonds. They require many things to stay active and need living cells to reproduce and survive. There must be gross blood, mucous or some other organic substance that goes from another person or a needle immediately into your mouth, anus, or any skin defect (wound) to transmit.
