A member asked:

Home health discharged my mother (88) because she was resistant to bathing & therapy (confused; delirium).shouldn't they know how to deal with this?

Suggestions: Confusion, combativeness, and lack of cooperation result from your mom's disease state, and risk of harm to her and/or the home health personnel is quite real. She might do better taking a medication designed for memory and confusion, as these can be very helpful. The Inderal (propranolol) is not the best choice, as it will make this all worse. Contact your doctor.

Depends: There is a fine line between delirium and dementia. Knowing how to encourage a confused person to cooperate with bathing can be both challenging and even dangerous if there is not enough help. Consider a geriatric assessment or ask her primary care to refer her for an occupational therapy evaluation.
