A member asked:

If you have anti-saccharomyces cerivisiae antibodies (asca), can u have negative reactions to foods/drinks containing this beneficial yeast?

Marker of disease: Behçet's disease- the association with asca is not generally strong, but increased in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms. Celiac disease ulcerative colitis-familial collagenous colitis and crohn's disease have all been associated with asca, but whether you have an allergy producing symptoms is unlikely.

Antibodies : Yes but be careful. High amounts of this antibody are found with celiac disease, chrone's disease and a few other disorders. It is not an allergic antibody but rather indicates antibody against mannan in the outer coating of this form of yeast. Cross reactions with other yeasts including candida can occur.
