Hormones & sleep: Through regulation of endocrine system. For example, growth hormone stimulates slow wave sleep while cortisol hormone inhibits it. Neuropeptide y induces sleep. Somatostatin interferes with sleep. Hormones that act on the inhibitory GABA receptors in the brain promote sleep.
