Can't breathe out...: Copd, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a disorder where the lungs cannot breathe all of the air out. They can inflate easily, but they can't deflate as easily. Thus, over time, air gets trapped in the lungs causing symptoms, most prominently shortness of breath. This can be due to chronic inflammation (bronchitis) or emphysema (destruction of lung tissue). Mostly caused by smoking.
