See a doc: This can be the result of quite a few injuries or pathology. You should see a physician familiar with these injuries. You may need an xray, ct scan, or MRI to further evaluate it.

What is a dislocated tailbone?

A coccyx injury: The tail bone (sacrum) ends in a series of small bones (like a rattlesnake tail) called the coccyx. If a fall or the traumatic delivery of a baby tears the ligaments (tissue straps) that hold the bones in place, the coccyx moves out of position (dislocates). This is not only painful, but can be painful for a considerable period of time.

Yes: Sacral agenesis is a very uncommon disorder meaning a congenital deformity of the sacral area (the lower part of the back just above the coccyx or tailbone).

Time: Unfortunately wait and protect it. Rarely is there surgery to remove or fix it.

How long does it take for your tailbone to heal from a crack?

Depends: Depending on size and severity of the crack/fracture and how active you are it could take up to 6-8 weeks or more. Definitely take it easy and don't push yourself too much while healing.

Can one receive therapy for a broken tailbone?

Yes: You can get gait training with a walker. You can learn exercises to do while your tailbone is sore from the brake. But, it will be sore sometimes for a few months and you will want to get a pillow to sit on and avoid hard chairs in the beginning.
