A member asked:

How to know if my toddler has t.b.? by looking at his xray film?

Skin test: An x-ray is not very specific and abnormalities seen in a toddler would be more likely to represent simple pneumonia. A skin testing showing a positive response, followed by an x-ray with specific findings might indicate tb. A bronchoscopy with recovery of the TB germ from lung would be the best evidence, but is seldom done in kids that age.

Chest xray plus: There are two kinds of tests that are used to determine if a person has been infected with TB bacteria: the tuberculin skin test and TB blood tests. Other tests, such as a chest x-ray and asample of sputum, are needed to see whether the person has TB disease.
