A member asked:

I got a chest xray done..the hospital people told that its digital xray when i asked what type is it..also the xray room had digital xray plate outside it..but they developed a film and gave it to me in some 30-40 minutes..do digital xrays have film?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not like the old days. Years ago the x-rays were made onto a special film like the old camera film, only different in the chemicals used. Today they are like what you get with a digital camera, printed on paper or other media like digital pictures. The plate is a receiver of the energy (X-rays) that went through the structure. Like light entering a camera (receiver)
