Throat catching: A retained foreign body (fishbone, etc) can be the culprit. But many things may cause difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), including reflux disease (gerd), esophageal dysmotility, anatomic diverticula, poor dietary habits (eating large meals late at night, excessive alcohol, etc), or narrowing of the esophagus inlet to the stomach. The foreign body should be ruled out, then a further exam done.
