No: No. True gum disease or periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease. It may occur due to genetics or it could be acquired due susceptibility and decrease in the immune response. We are very successful at treating it. Research has shown repeatedly that patients with periodontitis who are treated and follow what they are told keep most or all of their teeth.

Controllable: Most gum disease can be treated and controlled. The exact protocol can vary slightly from patient to patient. Dentists don't usually talk about curing gum disease. It tends tobe chronic.

No cure, sorry: It is a chronic disease, which we can make better and manage, but it usually doesn't go away forever. The only known 'cure' is to pull out the involved teeth, but please don't do that if at all possible.
