A member asked:

Can you please explain why a person's blood glucose is so much higher in hhnk in comparison to dka?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Other problems: A typical patient with hyperosmolar coma is older, often with associated renal impairment and more severe dehydration, which prevents loss of glucose in urine. The glu isn't always higher in hhnk. A typical young type 1 with DKA is able to drink a lot of water and disposes of a lot of glucose through the urine.
