DKA: Dka means diabetic ketoacidosis. That usually happens when your diabetes is not taken care of and ends in sky-high blood sugar levels. Did you know you have diabetes? If so and you haven't been measuring your blood sugars, your medication may not have been contolling your blood sugar levels at normal. Please do not gravitate to this situation again because it's not good. Good luck.

DKA: Usually (but not always) associated with type 1 dm, diabetic ketoacidosis is a medical emergency occuring when there is a very low level of insulin. When Insulin levels are too low, blood sugar goes up. The body thinks it's starving and starts making ketones as alternate fuel for the brain and heart. This increases acids in the blood and can cause death. Emergency medical attention is necessary.

Diabetes : If this is the first time you've ever had high blood sugar, then you were just diagnosed with diabetes, likely type 1. Patients in DKA get insulin, fluids, and electrolyte replacement. Dka is reversible, but means Insulin deficiency. Insulin injections or pump is the only way to get Insulin with type 1 diabetes. An endocrinologist and diabetes team should be involved. Good treatment available.
