Sorry, but........: There is no way to know or predict the future. It's doubtful that it will get worse by the time you find a new dentist. It's possible that the nerve has suffered irreversible damage and may need root canal therapy. On the other hand, it's also possible that things will get better on their own and no further treatment will be necessary. Avoid very cold and hot foods\liquids and hard foods.

Depends how long: Do not wait too long if the tooth has a vital nerve. If the tooth is sore, it might need a rct or might have a fracture. Take a second opinion.

Recent crown?: If the metal crown was recently placed, several things may have come into play: the crown may fit poorly and sit "too high" throwing off your bite as you mention. Reduction of tooth structure to fabricate crown may have caused pulpitis or internal inflammation and a root canal may be needed.
